What is Adderall?

You may have heard the disorder relating to attention deficiency. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disorder for which Adderall is used. It is one of the medicines that treat attention deficit disorder well.

Patients who are suffering from attention deficiency disorder have problems in activities demanding cognition such as paying attention, controlling behavior, managing tasks, listening, focusing on activity, etc. They consider taking Adderall as one of the treatments for their problem.

Adderall is also prescribed for treating narcolepsy and helps patients to stay awake during the day. It affects differently in patients who are suffering from narcolepsy.

Adderall uses-

As it has been said, Adderall’s uses include treatments for attention deficiency hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy. The effects of Adderall have been researched and the drug has been introduced in the market due to its opposite effect in humans undergoing ADHD.

Adderall contains amphetamine and it has been researched that longstanding use of Adderall in high dosage causes nerve damage or give rise to abnormal dopamine system development. It is strange that in humans diagnosed with attention deficiency disorder have the opposite effect.

Amphetamines in Adderall support nerve growth and help in the improvement of brain development. Adderall uses have long been reviewed and it has been proved in studies done with the help of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that chronic treatment with amphetamine improves the structure of the brain in patients with ADHD, affecting the improvement of the right caudate nucleus and the basal ganglia.

The core problems in patients with ADHD are hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. What amphetamines do is they wash away these core symptoms and make way for academic excellence along with improvement in social behavior, driving, health, occupation, and self-esteem among many others.

Another amphetamine study undertaken for nine months in a controlled environment on children found that there is an increase of up to 4.5 points in intelligence quotient.

Psychostimulants like amphetamine and methylphenidate are found to improve cognition increasing neurotransmitter activity in the brain’s neurotransmitter systems. Adderall uses may be more, but the uses mentioned are the main Adderall uses.

Adderall abuse-

It is a widely known fact that Adderall is one of the drugs used for the purpose of recreation. It is one of Adderall’s abuses that is being done in and across the United States. Crushing, snorting, and dissolving in water are some of the treatments through which Adderall abuse is undertaken.

It is very important to know that there are insoluble fillers in the pills of Adderall. Dissolving Adderall in water or any liquid and injecting it into the bloodstream can prove fatal as insoluble fillers in tablets are potent enough to block small blood vessels.

Adderall addiction-

One on a long-term unguided use of amphetamine such as Adderall is likely to use it for recreational purposes. What Adderall addiction does is that it develops drug tolerance pushing the patient to take a larger dose of Adderall.

Adderall addiction also makes the way for transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms making alterations in gene expressions.  It forms the way for neural adaptations making alterations in behavioral effects such as increasing drug self-administration, reward sensitization, etc. as seen in persons indulged in Adderall addiction.

Adderall addiction gives rise to heavy amphetamine use due to which the person may develop dopamine dysregulation syndrome causing them to perform compulsive sexual behavior.

Vyvanse vs. Adderall

Both Vyvanse and Adderall, are used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Apart from treating attention deficiency disorder, both stimulants are used for treating something else. Adderall is also used for the treatment of narcolepsy whereas Vyvanse, in adults, is used for the treatment of Binge Eating Disorder (BED).

When it comes to side effects, both these medicines have got same side effects.  Some of the side effects that are to be experienced by the use of Adderall and Vyvanse are-

• Diarrhea
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Irritability
• Decreased appetite
• Trouble sleeping
• Vomiting
• Upper abdominal pain
• Weight loss
• Anxiety

Both, Vyvanse and Adderall, are federally controlled substances as they are potent enough to lead anyone to develop dependence and addiction.  Either of them is not to be taken if you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the past 14 days.

Adderall vs Xanax

When it is about Adderall and Xanax, Adderall proves to be dominant in treating many cognitive disorders whereas Xanax is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.

It should be noted that the stress arising out of everyday work need not require Xanax or Adderall. These are prescribed medications that are used only under the prescription and guidance of medical professionals.

Panic disorder is characterized by the following symptoms developing suddenly and reaching their peak within 10 minutes. Four or more symptoms from the following can categorize one suffering from panic disorder:

• Accelerated heart rate
• Shaking or trembling
• Smothering or shortness of breath
• Feeling faint, dizzy, lightheadedness, or unsteady
